Why dogs?

Why did we get dogs?? I remember the first time when Randy and I had just gotten our first house how I wanted a dog. We went to the Washington Kennels were they had a bunch of puppies. It was so hard choosing which puppy so we ended up with two. I love male dogs because I feel they are usually so much more easy going and don’t have the attitudes the girl dogs have. Keva was a mutt of ??? Bristol was bigger, part chow part Golden Retriever. Last night we came home and for a moment thought our kids dogs (Beauty & Diamond) had escaped from the backyard. For a moment, I (Panayota) was a bit relieved since the kids don’t really pay much attention to them. No – Randy tells me check the garage and there they were. It is annoying but again we had to get after Alex to pick up the dog poop and Melinda forgot to feed them breakfast (Panayota did it). However the kids friends (who are pet free) do help get the kids interested in the dogs ’cause Melinda’s friend convinced her to brush her lovely dog Beauty. Oh – why did we get dogs???

Snake in the house!!!!

The snake got out again!!!!!!! And we can not find it. Some place in this house a small snake is slithering around.  We don’t get many guests as it is but now anyone that is afraid of snakes won’t walk in our door.    My worry is that this silly snake will find some crack to hide in and then die smelling up the house.  Alex knows that the snake will be caught and than released in the yard to go about it’s business and hopefully find a place to hibernate before winter arrives – a place not in our home.

Screaming heard for miles!!!!

Pattie who has been very good about the snakes that come and go in this home of ours was screaming loud enough the neighbors probably heard her.   She found the snake in the basement just now and wanted Alex or I to come down and get it.  It must have gotten through Alex’s heat register.  I am glad it did not end up in the furnace.  Alex got it and took it outside to set it free.  No more snakes, at least this year.

The Snake Escape

RE- Captured

Alex has become a great finder and capturer of garter snakes.   He caught his first by himself when he was about 6 years old.  He has had several different ones ever since.   He caught one for his teacher this past month and then a couple of days ago he found this little one.   Today,  the last day of school he comes home, goes to his room,  comes back out and asks: did you let the snake out?  NO!!!!  Great that little thing can get just about any place.  Well this is a good excuse to clean out your room.  Lets try to find the snake before your mother gets home.  Too late!!  Mom takes it in stride as we search the house to no avail.   I like snakes but I suddenly had a vision of this snake stuck in our heat vent, dying and filling the house with a stench and us not being able to find it.  I make one last look in the coat closet and find it hiding behind some shoes.  Good thing it wasn’t in them.  Wow- was Pattie happy to hear we caught and contained the thing once again.  She thought it would end up in Melinda’s bed – sure to make Melinda hate snakes instead of liking them.
