11th birthday on the 11th

Melinda’s 11th birthday

she turned 11 on 1-11 – 2011 a very special date indeed. So Melinda had a few of her friends over to watch a movie.   Before the big day Pattie wanted to get a another image of Melinda while she was still only 10 in her  wedding dress. We  photographed  Melinda when she was five in Pattie’s  wedding dress and we think we will try to photograph Melinda in Patties wedding dress again when Melinda is 15 it’s hard to believe that at10 she already  fit’s the dress.

Day off

Day off of school.

Melinda took one more day off of school today with some cold type symptoms. Alex brought school work home, and though this is a great idea to help keep Melinda caught up we could not ascertain what exactly was to be done with the school work. So, She will have to make up her work next week when she can get some direction.

When calling the school attendance line, the voice mail system still wants to know about any kind of flu type symptoms. Do they use this as some kind of statistical numbers about kids missing school because of the flu? Seems some what un-scientific but what ever works for them.  NO she does not have the Flu.

She does not hate school but has been enjoying staying home and playing computer games. I insist that she does some studying on the computer as long as she’s there anyway.  It is amazing how much time the kids spend on the computer. We even have started watching some shows on the computer.

Hair cuts and Earrings

She did not even notice my hair cut

School had a fund raiser – of sorts – last week. One of the restaurants nearby gives the school a percentage of the proceeds during a particular night. So all the parents took the kids out for a night (including us), while their we ran into the family that we car pool with. As parents we find a certain amount of pleasure in teasing Melinda and one of the boys about how they argue like an old married couple. They of course adamantly deny it.  But about this time Alex commented about the other boys new hair cut.  He thanked Alex for noticing and added that Melinda did not notice. NO!! that’s not acting like an old married couple at all.

So this past weekend Melinda wanted to try having her ears pierced again. Last year it just did not work, as they became infected and she had to let the holes close up. Now it is one year later and she is trying it again. Having never had my ears pierced I am not sure why it is so important, but it is! If you look close you can see how pretty her little earrings are.

She went to school with her new earrings in, and at the end of the day she asked her friend (the boy that is not her boy friend) if he noticed her new earrings. His comment: yes I noticed but I was pretending not to notice because you (Melinda) did not notice my hair cut!

I thought the girls were suppose to be sensitive about this sort of thing. And are you sure your not an old married couple? At any rate Melinda is very happy to have earrings again and said she is sorry she didn’t notice his very important hair cut.

Get Melinda a Beer????

Melinda is only nine!!!!!   That’s OK its cheap beer!

Its for her head – our hair stylist is the second person to tell us that beer would help take the chlorine out of her hair.  We have had this problem for some time now.  Melinda loves to swim but cannot get the chlorine out of her hair.  We have tried every kind of shampoo imaginable as well as egg whites and now beer.   We installed a thing on the shower to remove chlorine from the water so as to not add any more chlorine to her hair.  The eggs did not seem to work and the expensive shampoos did almost nothing but the beer seems to have helped.  I just hope she does not smell of beer when she goes to school – that could cause some interesting rumors at school.

On a side note she got her earring back in and by herself.   So she is set for school with earrings in both ears and hair that no longer smells like chlorine – she only smells of beer.  Great!!!

Hole in her ear…

For her Birthday Melinda got pierced ears.  Now one of her ears is swollen and bleeding.   I am so glad that I do not have to mess with this kind of stuff.  Her biggest concern is that if we leave out the earring, to let the infection drain out and heal, the hole will heal shut and she will look funny with one earring.   The fact that it hurts and could get worse is of little concern compared to the possible embarrassment of only having one ear pierced.   I knew that one day fashion would over take common sense but I was hoping she would be in her teens before it took hold.   She went to bed sad, crying, and worried that her piercing would heal shut before morning.  I tried to relieve her stress.   I told her I could put a new hole in her ear with a nail, but for some reason this brought her no comfort.  I am working at the ski area tomorrow so Pattie is going to ski with the kids.  Melinda’s concern is what?  That’s right – her concern is how her helmet will affect her earrings.   I think I will find a couple of earrings and glue them to the outside of the helmet.  If this is a sign of things to come – I am in trouble.
